Lismore Castle is located in the town of Lismore in County Waterford in Ireland. The castle site was originally a site for an important monestary in the early 7th century. Henry II, King of England, stayed there in 1171. Later it served as a residence of the local bishop. In 1589 Lismore was leased and later acquired by Sir Walter Raleigh. He later sold the property to Richard Boyle, later 1st Earl of Cork. The Castle, along with other properties was acquired by the Cavandish Family in 1753. The 12th Duke of Devonshire, who succeeded to the title in 2004, continues to live primarily on the family's Bolton Estate. One can visit the gardens of the Castle and it is indeed a beautiful stroll through one of the most beautiful gardens in Ireland.

"One of the greatest virtues of gardening is this perpetual renewal of youth and spring, of promise of flower and fruit that can always be read in the open book of the garden, by those with an eye to see, and a mind to understand." ~E.A. Bowles
